Nintendo of America is suing the U.S. government over tariffs introduced by President Donald Trump. The company filed the lawsuit in the U.S. Court of International Trade, mainly seeking refunds for tariffs it previously paid on imported products.

The Supreme Court ruled in February that the tariffs were unlawful because the government could not use the International Emergency Economic Powers Act to impose them. However, the situation is still complicated because new tariffs have been proposed and many companies are challenging them in court.

Nintendo manufactures most of its consoles and accessories overseas, mainly in Vietnam and China, so the tariffs had a big impact on the company. The timing was especially difficult because the tariffs were announced while Nintendo was preparing to release the Nintendo Switch 2. As a result, the company delayed preorders and had to raise the prices of some accessories, although the console itself stayed the same price.

Nintendo is now asking the court to refund the tariffs it paid, including interest. Many other companies and several U.S. states have also filed lawsuits challenging the tariffs.
