IT issues while voting in Switzerland
The canton "Basel-City" had IT issues with the voting results of the online votings of around 2000 votes.
In the Swiss canton of Basel-Stadt, electronically submitted votes could not be counted due to a technical problem. The issue was related to USB sticks used to decrypt the electronic ballot box, and IT experts were unable to fix it despite several attempts.
As a result, 2,048 electronic votes were excluded from the final count. These votes came mainly from Swiss citizens living abroad and a small number of voters with disabilities who rely on e-voting.
Officials said there was no evidence of hacking or outside manipulation. The canton now plans to investigate the technical failure to prevent similar problems in the future.
